SWABI, Sept 10: ANP President Senator Asfandyar Wali Khan has said that a government who ‘usurped’ rights of the people and gave preference to one community over the other could not rule over the people indefinitely.

Wrapping up his two-day visit to the district on Sunday, he said that nationalist movements like Sindhi movement and Baloch movement had been annihilated by the establishment, but the struggle of Pukhtuns would never die down.

He said that the Pukhtuns were alive and they would give sacrifices for their cause, adding that the Awami National Party would work hard to protect their rights.

He said the government’s dream of crushing the Pukhtuns would never come true and the best option for the government was to give up what he called their victimisation.

He said the Pukhtun community was passing through an extremely difficult stage.

“We should shun our differences and create unity in our ranks and struggle against those who were bent upon harming us,” he said.

In the next election, he said, the people would vote for the nationalist forces because they had seen the rule of religious parties who had deceived the people in the name of religion.

He demanded formation of an independent election commission, eradication of army’s role from politics, formation of an undisputed government and restoration of ‘genuine’ democracy in the country.
