KARACHI, Sept 17: National hockey camp for Pakistan juniors in preparations of next month’s 6-nations event will commence at the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium from Thursday, team manager Jahangir But said on Monday.

He said 47 boys invited for the training and coaching camp will assemble here on Wednesday evening and training programme will be launched on the following day.

Olympian Jahangir said that camp is part of build-up for the 6-nations championship schedule to be held at Singapore from October 17-21.

This will be the second international assignment for the juniors after their successful tour to Kenya and Egypt earlier this year. The preparations and training of the juniors is part of a long-term program by PHF to prepare the team for 2009 Junior World Hockey Cup in the Netherlands.

Olympian Kamran Ashraf and Danish Kaleem are among the panel of coaches preparing the juniors.

Jahangir Butt said trials to select the junior team will be held on September 30 after which an 18-member squad will be named.

Teams to take part in the event include Australia, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia and host Singapore.
