KHAIRPUR, Sept 21: The irrigation authorities has announced rotation programme for canals for irrigation of east division Khairpur from Sept 22 to Oct 14.
Due to fall in water level in River Indus at Sukkur barrage, the Khairpur Feeder East canals are unable to take designed discharge therefore the rotation programme has been chalked out.
As per programme, in first group, seven canals including Khan wah, Sada Rang wah, Bilawal wah, Sanesa minor, Dehdhano minor, Saweri minor and Kalra minor will remain closed from Sept 22 to Sept 29.
In group two, four canals including Faiz Bux wah, Sanhro wah, Shahnawaz wah and Sone wah will remain closed from Sept 29 to Oct 6, whereas, in group three, Ali Bahar wah will remain closed from Oct 6 to Oct 14.
President Khairpur Abadgars Ittehad, Shakir Shah, secretary Faqir Niaz Hussain Bhambhro and other abadgars have condemned the rotation programme.
They said that during Sept and Oct, cotton and sugar cane crops reach at final stages and needed proper water.
They said that rotation programme would harm the crops.
loadshedding condemned: Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) district Khairpur at its meeting on Friday condemned the power loadshedding at Sehri, Iftar and Taraveeh timings.
The meeting, presided over by Maulana Mir Mohammad Hanjrah, expressed concern over price hike of daily consumer items particularly wheat flour.
The meeting observed that the shortage of wheat flour was increasing day by day and people were unable to buy daily items due to the price hike.
The meeting condemned the murder of Maulana Hassan Jan, senior leader of the JUI and said that such incidents were result of wrong policies of the government.
ROBBERY: A passenger coach was looted on the National Highway in taluka Kotdiji late on Thursday evening.
Reports said that a Sukkur bound passenger coach was on its way from Karachi and some six people boarded as passengers near Sorah bus stop taluka Kotdiji.
Later, they held hostage the passengers at gun point and looted cash, mobile phones and other valuables.
The armed men escaped near Mithrri machine.
After the incident the passengers staged a demonstration on the National Highway for more than an hour to protest against the robbery.
They raised slogans against the police and demanded recovery of their looted items.
The coach driver Khadim Hussain told reporters that there were more than fifty passengers in the coach and the armed men took control of all of them at gun point.
