DERA ISMAIL KHAN, March 18: Dera Ismail Khan District Nazim Latifullah Khan has urged Ulema to promote religious harmony and tolerance among different sects of the Muslims.

Speaking at a meeting of the D.I.Khan Peace Committee here on Sunday, he said strict security arrangements had been made to maintain peace in Muharram.

He also called upon the elected representatives to extend every possible cooperation to the district administration, and play their due role in maintaining the law and order during the holy month. The meeting— attended among others by DCO Amjad Nazir, SSP Arif Nawaz and other officials— reviewed the prevailing law and order situation in the district. It also condemned the attack on the church in Islamabad.

Besides the imposition of section 144, the district government has banned display of fire-arms, use of loudspeakers, pillion riding, playing controversial cassettes and distribution of sectarian literature.
