KARACHI, Sept 25: Sialkot took command of their three-day PCB Inter-regional Under-19 Cricket Championship match after taking a first-innings lead of 93 runs over Karachi Urban at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground on Tuesday.

The visitors further consolidated their advantage by reaching 69 for two in the second innings to hold an overall lead of 159 going into Wednesday’s final day.

Resuming the second day at 30 for one in reply to Sialkot’s 283, Karachi Urban were all out for 190 despite a fighting 67 by Hafiz Asad Baig, who slammed 10 fours and two sixes in a 122-ball knock.

Slow left-armers Raza Hasan (5-71 in 32.1 overs) and Nayyar Abbas (4-74 in 37 overs) shared the bowling honours for Sialkot.

Karachi Harbour were heading for defeat against Peshawar at the TMC Ground. Having conceded a first-innings lead of 75 runs, the hosts were reeling at 35 for four in the second innings at stumps.

Peshawar, who started the day 45 for two, made 264 in their first innings with Mohammad Rizwan unluckily missing out on a century by three runs. But his 97, which included seven boundaries, played a major part in ensuring Peshawar’s dominance.

Jibran Khan, who claimed seven for 43 with slow left-armers on Monday, scored 48 while Asif Khan finished on an undefeated 56.

Junaid Naeem, the slow left-armer, grabbed five for 67 in 23 overs.

Islamabad were also strongly placed against Abbottabad. After scoring 308 in response to the visitors’ 239, the hosts had Abbottabad in strife at 45 for four in the second innings.

Hyderabad found the going tough in Okara where Multan piled up 350 with Abdul Raheem (115) and Adnan Razzaq (87) playing good hands.

Hyderabad were 107 for five in reply.

Faisalabad face an uphill struggle after Rawalpindi bowled out their hosts for 138 to take a lead of 118 on the first innings at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

Pakistan Under-19 paceman Mohammad Rameez (5-25) and slow left-armer Samiullah (5-31) created problems for Faisalabad, who lost their last eight wickets for 54 runs after being 84 for two.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Quetta made a spirited reply to reach 157 for four against Lahore Shalimar at the LCCA Ground.

Lahore Shalimar, who resumed at 156 for two, closed their innings at 307 for nine in 83 overs. Babar Manzoor added just two runs to his Monday’s tally and was dismissed for 71. Yasir Ajmal remained unbeaten with 51.
