HARIPUR, Oct 2: The family of a person gunned down by the Haripur police on Tuesday moved the court of the district judge for registration of an FIR against the police team that mistook him and his associates as members of the Jaiba Daku gang.

Syed Iltaf-ur-Rehman, son of Syed Hameed-ur-Rehman, Sajjada Nasheen of Ziarat Kaka Sahib Noshehra lodged a complaint with the court of Haripur district and sessions judge Ibrahim Khan under section 22-A of Criminal Procedure Code praying for registration of the case.

The complainant said that his brother Syed Arif-ur-Rehman of Ziarat Kaka Sahib was going to Havelian by his car for offering Fateha on the death of one of their followers Arif Khan.

When they reached the Chamba bridge village between Haripur and Abbottabad, a police team headed by Saddar SHO Babar Khan opened fire on the vehicle, killing Arif-ur-Rehman and his (mureed) follower Ishtiaq, son of Mohammad Saeed and injuring Tahir Hussain.

He said that he tried to get the FIR registered at the local police station but they refused.

The district judge referred the application to additional district judge Adil Khan for inquiry who ordered the district police officer, deputy superintendent police and the Saddar SHO to submit their comments by September 6.

It may be recalled that after the incident, the Haripur police had claimed that it had gunned down two wanted criminals belonging to notorious Jaiba group in an encounter and injured one of their accomplices.
