SWABI, Oct 3: The Wapda Hydro Electric Union staged a demonstration here on Wednesday to protest against non-payment of special Eid grants to employees and price hike.

The protesters were led by Division-I chairman Imtiaz Khan and Division-II chairman Ravaid Khan. The procession marched towards the Kernel Sher chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Imtiaz said that prices of essential commodities had increased manifold during the month of Ramazan and regretted that no checks were put in place to control it.

“In such a scenario, how will it be possible for Wapda employees to celebrate Eid and meet the demands of their families,” he asked.

Wapda high-ups, he said, should announce a special pay package else the employees would face immense hardships on the occasion of Eid.

Mr Ravaid alleged that the authority had not even paid off-day wages, which had created unrest among its employees.

“If an employee works in an industry, he gets extra payment for the off-day but Wapda officials ignored this fact and deprived its employees of such a facility,” he said.

They warned that if Wapda authorities did not meet their demand then they would give a protest call before Eid.

MARDAN: Pesco employees held a demonstration here on Wednesday.

The protesters took out a procession from the Wapda office here, led by Malik Shahbaz Khan and Gohar Ali Shah.

They complained that they had been unable to meet their expenditures due to price hike.

They alleged that they had been deprived of TA bills and certain other wages while up-gradation of scales had also stopped.

They called for a special Eid package and warned that the privatisation of the Bahader Feeder in Peshawar would not be allowed.

The speakers gave the authorities concerned one week deadline for the acceptance of their demands and warned that they would observe a pen-down strike and demonstrate against Pesco throughout the province if their demands were not met.
