HYDERABAD, Oct 8: DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri has said that though no case of dengue fever has been reported in Hyderabad district, the district government has taken precautionary measures and prepared a contingency plan to meet any eventuality of dengue virus in the district.

He was speaking at a meeting of the officials of departments concerned which discussed the precautionary measures undertaken to prevent the emergence and spread of dengue virus in the district.

The DCO said that the contingency plan jointly prepared by the district health department, its malaria eradication wing and the taluka municipal administrations would be implemented in phases under the supervision of the EDO health.

He said that 10 teams had been constituted to undertake fumigation in the district and to identify water ponds in collaboration with the TMAs concerned which would be de-watered or cleansed by use of poisonous chemicals before Eidul Fitr to stop mosquitoes breeding.

He said that the process of fumigation and de-watering of ponds was in progress in the district and it would be further expedited after the Eidul by starting a street fumigation campaign in consultation with union council nazims.

He directed the EDO health and the TMAs to coordinate with sister organizations, including Cantonment Board Hyderabad, and to ensure that all parts of the district were fumigated. He also directed the TMAs to maintain cleanliness in their areas and ask the managements of private hospitals and schools to ensure cleanliness on their premises.

The DCO said that in case of any short comings experienced during the implementation of the plan, it would be revised and re-strengthened to make it successful.

He directed the EDO health to expedite health awareness campaign to avoid any negligence either by public or officials. He directed the officers concerned to adopt public participatory approach while implementing any public oriented project.

EDO Health Sharif Rathore, EDO Finance and Planning Javed Junejo, the taluka municipal officers and other officers of the district government attended the meeting.

In a statement faxed to Dawn here on Monday, the former MNA said that had the difference been resolved earlier, such a situation would have not arisen.
