SWABI, Oct 24: The nazims of 56 union councils have demanded of the district government to grant them plots in the Shahmansoor Township, Dawn has learnt.
Sources said that District Nazim Shahram Khan would hold a meeting on Thursday with the nazims, who are also members of the district council, in an effort to resolve the issue.
The sources said that 13,900 application forms for allotment of 109 plots in the township were distributed among the people. At least 11,528 people submitted the forms and deposited millions in May.
A few weeks ago, the district council opposed the transfer of this amount to the Khyber Bank and the Habib Bank from the Muslim Commercial Bank on a 10 per cent interest rate, the sources added.
A draw was held for the allotment of 10-marla plots of the township on Oct 9, but the district nazim, who is chairman of the township’s governing body, cancelled it, saying that another draw would be held soon after Eidul Fitr.
Other members of the governing body are the district coordination officer, director and superintendent of the Swabi Development Authority and a member of the district finance department.
