ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: The central consultative body of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) on Thursday demanded resignation of Qazi Hussain Ahmed as president of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and swapping of the offices of president and secretary-general between the JUI (F) and Jamaat-i-Islami.

Sources said the party’s Shura in its two-day meeting which ended here on Thursday also decided to extend the meeting to Friday and convene its central executive committee meeting on the same day to firm up the Shura decisions.

Majority of the Shura members wanted Qazi Hussain to step down due to his deteriorating health and hardline stance in political decisions, the sources said. It demanded that the office of the president of the MMA be given to the JUI (F) and the secretary-general to the Jamaat.

Maulana Fazlur Rahman, who presided over the two-day session, was expected to announce decisions of the Shura and the CEC at a news conference on Friday, the sources said.
