HYDERABAD, Oct 26: The Centre of Environment and Development has appreciated the decision taken by the University of Sindh regarding the establishment of department of Anthropology and Archaeology.

The office-bearers of the CEAD in a joint statement mailed to Dawn here on Friday, said these subjects have been neglected and needed to be given due importance by the academic institutions to develop human resources for further studies on Indus civilization, which is yet to be explored.

They expressed the hope that the department would produce quality scholars to study the societal changes in Sindh from anthropological perspective. The academic contribution, they said would certainly bring new dimensions to understand the dynamics of social change.

SEMESTER SYSTEM: The academic council Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro which met here on Friday after discussions decided to introduce semester system of examination from 2007-08.

The vice-chancellor of the university professor Naushad Ahmed Shaikh presided over the meeting.

He informed that the Higher Education Commission Islamabad had advised that like ten others public universities of the country, LUMHS should also introduce semester system of examination system immediately. The incharge medical education of the university, Dr Shagufta, gave details of the ongoing academic activities.

After detailed discussions, the academic council unanimously decided to introduce semester system of examination in the university starting from 2007-08 batch as advised by the HEC.
