ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: The All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) Friday urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the death threats to PPP chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto to discourage the elements who wanted anarchy in the country.

Speaking at a press conference Chairman Apma Shahbaz Bhatti said Ms Benazir Bhutto was continuously facing harassment since her return to Pakistan.

He demanded of the government to provide adequate protection to Ms Benazir Bhutto and other political leaders. He also called for providing them level-playing field for their election campaign.

He observed that progressive forces should forge an alliance under the leadership of Ms Benazir Bhutto to defeat extremist elements in the forthcoming elections.

He announced that “International Day of Prayers” will be observed on October 28 to pray for the victims of October 18 carnage.

The prayers gatherings will be held in churches, temples and gurudwaras, etc., on the day around the world, particularly all over Pakistan to show sympathy with victims of October 18 incident, pray for the safety, protection and long life of Ms Bhutto, peace and integrity of Pakistan. He requested the entire nation and religious minorities of the country to offer special prayers on the day.

He strongly condemned the brutal attack on October 18 on the convoy of Ms Benazir Bhutto. “The horrific attack on October 18, 2007 was a coward act meant to kill the hopes of the people of Pakistan for democracy. Such terrorist attacks are the efforts by terrorists to damage the integrity, unity, development and prosperity of Pakistan and to sabotage the democracy in Pakistan. These terrorists are the enemies of people of Pakistan, and they are afraid of the dynamic revolutionary bold and popular leadership of Ms Bhutto,” he remarked.
