Lahore capture badminton gold

LAHORE, Oct 28: Lahore district won the gold medal beating Rawalpindi 3-2 in the final of the 70th Punjab Games badminton on Sunday.

Results:

Faisal Sarwar (Lahore ) bt M. Mohsin (Rawalpindi) 21-15,21-15; Arsalan Khan/Hafiz Irfan (Lahore) lost to Mohsin/Irfan Mahmood (Rawalpindi) 16-21, 15-21;

Ahmed Nazir (Lahore)

lost to Irfan Mahmood (Rawalpindi) 21-13, 19-21,20-22, Ahmed-Shoaib (Lahore) bt M. Mohsin-Qasim Sharif (Rawalpindi) 21-17,21-9; Hafiz Irfan (Lahore) bt Shuja Khan (Rawalpindi) 22-20,21-15.

Playoff for 3rd /4th place: Gujranwala bt Faisalabad 3-0.

Results: Ashfaq bt Awais Zahid 21-18,22-20; Ashfaq-Hafiz Umer bt Sherazi- Shahzad 21-19,21-17; Azeem bt Taimoor 19-21,21-17,21-18.

Squash: Lahore were also the leaders in squash event on the penultimate day on Sunday, followed by Rawalpindi, Bahawalnagar, Faisalabad, Muzaffargarh and Gujranwala.

The final standings will be known on Monday, the last day of the games.—Sports Reporter
