HYDERABAD, Oct 29: Leaders of the Sanghar chapter of Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) said on Monday that despite clear orders by the chief minister cancelling contract system and replacing it with licences for catching fish in all sweet water resources of the province the fisheries department had not yet issued licences for Chotiyari Dam where the former contractors were robbing fishermen of their catch at gunpoint.
PFF Sanghar President Pir Bux Mallah and general secretary Rasool Bux Mallah told a group of journalists outside the press club said that the chief minister had abolished contract system for catching fish in all the sweet waters of the province.
But the fisheries department had not yet issued any licenses for Chotiyari Dam in Sanghar although the department had issued a notification in this regard, they said.
The former contractors were robbing fishermen of their catch at gunpoint under police patronisation and even the fisheries department had shown helplessness against them. If they did not get justice they would resume protest in November, they warned.
CLARIFICATION: The Board of Governor, Sindhi Adabi Board has criticised publication of a pamphlet under the Board’s fictitious name in a meeting, held here on Sunday.
The meeting was presided over by Vice Chairman Madad Ali Sindhi in the absence of its Chairman, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.
However, his message was read which laid emphasis on educational and literary institutions to work for the development and promotion of Sindh’s history, the language, and literature.
“It’s my desire to see these institutions, including the Sindhi Adabi Board progress as these can explore more avenues for the promotion of Sindhi literature,” he said. The CM said development of the SAB will lead to increased publication of Sindhi books.
