SWABI, Oct 29: Students of the Government Postgraduate College took out a procession in support of teachers who have boycotted classes in protest against delay in revision of their pay scales.

The college teachers said their university colleagues had been granted upgradation in accordance with an announcement by the prime minister on the Salam Teachers’ Day, but they had been ignored.

Islami Jamait Talaba president Abdul Salam said the government was responsible for wastage of their precious time.

He said the government claimed that it wanted to improve standard of education, but it had failed to ensure an adequate salary to teachers.

People’s Student Federation president Jehangir Tarakai said the underpaid teachers could not fulfil their duty of imparting quality education to the young generation. He demanded that teachers should be granted upgradation in accordance with the prime minister’s announcement without delay.
