ISLAMABAD, Nov 1: Jordan’s King Abdullah, who arrived here on a brief visit on Thursday, held important consultations with President Gen Pervez Musharraf on revival of peace efforts in the troubled Middle East.

During his almost three-hour stay in the capital, King Abdullah held a meeting with President Musharraf at the Aiwan-e-Sadr around noon. Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri was also present at the meeting and at the luncheon which followed it.

“The two leaders agreed on the urgency of determined and serious engagement to address the Palestinian issue and for efforts to reverse further aggravation of the Middle East situation,” according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

“The two leaders held in-depth discussions on the situation in the Middle East, which has witnessed some notable developments over the recent months, including efforts to revive the Middle East Peace Process by the Arab League and Quartet members,” it noted, adding: “King Abdullah appreciated the President’s initiative earlier this year to address the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.”
