NAWABSHAH, Nov 4: Police arrested the general secretary of the District Bar Association Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar who was also local PPP leader from his office on the Qazi Ahmed Road on Sunday night.

The SHO of A- Section police station, Ghulam Nabi Kharal, denied his arrest but taluka secretary of PPP, Noor Nawaz Zardari, confirmed that police had arrested Mr Zia and kept him at the B-Section police station.

In Hyderabad, police picked up three activists of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Punhal Gadhi, Aftab Memon and Waheed Memon on charges of forcing shopkeepers to close their businesses.

Police have shifted Dr. Magsi to Central Prison after arresting him from his residence in the State Life Colony under Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO) for 90 days.

Police tried to arrest a PML-N leader Sultan Shaikh when he was going to the press club but he managed to enter the club premises.

In Sukkur, police picked up Imdad Awan, acting chief of Supreme Court Bar Association, and Shahryar, 14, son of Shabbir Shar, general secretary of the Sukkur chapter of Sindh High Court Association after raids on their residences.

There are reports that police forced into the house of Lala Asad Pathan, correspondent of ARY TV channel and misbehaved with his family members.

They took away his brothers Gul Khan and Shahbaz Khan when they did not find Lala at home and shifted them to unknown places. Lala later told journalists that officials of district administration and Rangers had threatened him not to report anything about the crackdown and arrests.
