Seher bags Talent Hunt tennis crown

KARACHI, Nov 9: Top seed Seher Khawaja, a former national hard court champion, bulldozed Anam Saeed in the final to claim the ladies singles crown in the 17th Talent Hunt Sindh ranking tennis championship at the CDGK Sports Complex on Friday.

Seher was convincing in her 6-2, 6-2 triumph and didn’t allow her opponent to settle at any stage of the match.

Khawaja Hamza also picked up yet another title when he squeezed past fighting Talha Zubair 8-6 in the U-11 final.

Abdul Rehman, who could not go beyond semi-finals in the juniors U-17 and boys U-15 singles, earned some consolation while teaming up with Talha Saeed to overcome Mustafa Zaidi/Adil Kohari 7-5, 7-6 to land the juniors doubles title.

Robin Das accounted for Jahangir Rasheed 6-1, 6-4 to set a date with top seed Vinod Das for the men’s crown slated for Saturday at 3.00pm.

Omer Shahid and Mustafa Zaidi also made it to the boys U-15 singles final. The former beat Nameer Shamsi 6-3, 6-3 while the latter overcame a stiff challenge from Abdul Rehman before winning the pre-final 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Results:

Men’s singles (semi-final): Robin Das bt Jahangir Rasheed 6-1, 6-4.

Ladies singles (final): Seher Khawaja bt Anam Saeed 6-2, 6-2.

Juniors U-17 singles (quarter-final): Omer Shahid bt Ali Zubair 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

Boys U-13 singles (semi-finals): Adil Kohari bt Faraz Ahmed 6-1, 6-1; Nameer Shamsi bt Shahbaz 6-4, 4-0 (retd).

Boys U-11 singles (final): Khwaja Hamza bt Talha Zubair 8-6.

Boys U-15 singles (semi-finals): Omer Shahid bt Nameer Shamsi 6-3, 6-3; Mustafa Zaidi bt Abdul Rehman 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Girls U-17 singles (round robin): Uzma Zakaria bt Maheen Dada 8-2.

Boys doubles (final): Abdul Rehman/Talha Saeed bt Mustafa Zaidi/Adil Kohari 7-5, 7-6.

Saturday’s fixtures:

Boys U-13 singles; juniors U-17 singles; boys U-15 singles (finals) 10.00am; men’s singles (final) 3.00pm.
