HYDERABAD, Nov 11: Around 300 activists of PPP were rounded up across Sindh and four workers of the party received bullet injuries in Dadu district when they were fired upon by police.
Cases for violation of Section 144 Cr.PC have been lodged in almost all 23 districts.
A black day call by the party leadership against imposition of emergency and action taken against the party’s parliamentarians in Islamabad on Friday sparked agitation throughout the province.
Four PPP activists received bullet injuries in Bhan Syedabad of Jamshoro district while over 100 were arrested in different towns of the district during rallies.
Around 43 workers, including MPA Nawab Wassan, were arrested in Umerkot, MPA Syed Ali Mardan Shah and eight activists were picked up while Syed Ali Mardan Shah and over 21 were nabbed in Mirpurkhas. Police baton charged a PPP rally and arrested 10 activists in Nawabshah while Thatta and Hyderabad police roped in five and seven protesters, including three women, respectively.
In Hyderabad, Baldia police baton charged, tear gassed a handful of PPP activists when they tried to block a section of the National Highway in protest. Police arrested seven activists, including women for violating Section 144 CrPC.
Those arrested are Noor un Nisa Abro, Firdous Abro, Reshma Baloch, Shoaib Lashari, Waseem, Lala Rizwan Mughal and Dr Arshad Abro of People’s Doctor Forum. Only Shabana Khan and other activists including MPA managed to get away. Baldia police have lodged a case against them under section 188 PPC for violating 144 CrPC.
Strike was observed in Tandojam and other towns including Shaikh Bhirkio and Tando Qaiser. However, no organised rally was taken out although some miscreants pelted stones on the passing vehicles.
LARKANA: A complete strike was observed in Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts amid heavy police deployment and patrolling on Sunday.
PPP leader Punhal Soomro and Wali Mohammed Magsi led the procession taken out in the Qambar town.
The protestors, carrying banners and party flags, were chanting slogans.
They marched on the main roads of the town and later assembled outside the press club.
In their speeches they called for holding transparent polls with independent Election Commission, releasing all the arrested political workers and lifting ban on media.
They also called for restoration of democracy in the country.
A small group of women workers of PPP led by Ms Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto took to the streets and demonstrated outside local press club.
Police arrested seven PPP workers from Larkana and Dokri on Sunday said Anwar Bhutto MNA and general secretary of PPP Larkana district while talking to Dawn.On the other hand the district police officer Larkana denied any arrest.
Those arrested included — Sadaruddain Dahani, Imdad Ali Jamali, Zulfikar Turk (Larkana), Sardar Khan Jarwar, Ghulam Mohammed Dero, Ali Gohar Jatoi and Ubedullah Junejo former nazim of union council Garilo.
DADU: Four PPP activists received bullet injuries in Bhan town and over one hundred were arrested in different towns of district during rallies. PPP workers took out a rally in Bhan Town against emergency and house arrest of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
NAWABSHAH: Police baton-charged a PPP rally on the Hospital road and arrested 10 activists. The rally was led by acting district president and MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio and secretary Imdad Dhamrah.
Later, District Nazim Nawabshah, Faryal Talpur and District Naib Nazim Abdul Haq Jamali visited office and condemned police action. MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio also condemned police action and said people were on roads against dictatorship.
MITHI: PPP activists took out a rally and staged a sit-in in front of the press club. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with “lift emergency, remove curbs on print and electronic media, release political activists, lawyers, journalists, hold free and fair polls”.
BADIN: There was no protest in Badin and all shops and business centres remained open in the district.
THATTA: PPP activists staged a massive demonstration in protest against the PCO and police action against party leaders in Islamabad. They were led by Arbab Wazir Ahmed Memon, Dr Altaf Khwaja, Dr Wahid Soomro and Babu Ghulam Hussain.
Police arrested five activists including Mujahid Hashim, Ishaque Dars and others. Law enforcers stormed party district office at Soomra Manzil and impounded over half a dozens of vehicles of party workers parked there.
KHAIRPUR: Around 43 PPP workers, including MPA Nawab Wassan, were arrested. PPP workers in Khairpur took out two rallies from Jilani house and Wassan House. Over 100 PPP workers led by PPP MPA Sindh, Nawab Wassan appeared from Wassan house and reached Station road. They succeeded in staging rally at Phool Bagh chowk where police baton charged and dispersed them.
Another rally was taken out from the residence of Syed Qaim Ali Shah which was led by Syed Amjad Ali Shah.
Police baton charged workers and dispersed them, arresting 14 of them.
SHIKARPUR: PPP activists took out a rally which was led by PPP district president Qazi Naeem Akbar. It started from Mirani house and after marching on Hathi Gate and station road, reached outside press club.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: A shutter-down strike was observed till 12:30pm in Naushahro Feroze, Phul, Bhirya Road, Tharushah, Darbelo, Bhorti, Padidan towns while a number of PPP workers were arrested in different parts of the district.
MATIARI: PPP activists staged a sit-in outside Matiari press club. District president of PPP Matiari, Pir Amir Ali Shah Hashmi, taluka president Mumtaz Ali Shah and other leaders led the protesters.
TANDO MOHAMMAD KHAN: PPP activists staged a protest sit-in on Phulelli road and raised slogans. They were led by Syed Mohsin Shah Bukhari, Syed Aijaz Ali Shah and others . Police arrested district president of the party, Haji Mohammad Amin Lakho.
JACOBABAD: Jacobabad remained normal as shops remained open. Police were deployed at main areas of the city.
MIRPURKHAS: Over 30 PPP activists and elected representatives were arrested by police in Mirpurkhas and Umerkot districts on Sunday.
However, PPP activists held meetings at the UC level and burnt tyres at different places. Heavy contingents of police were deployed around PPP offices in old Musafirkhana and Umerkot.
Besides, police were deployed on main roads, sensitive installations, main chowks, exit and entry points of the town.
PPP workers burnt old tyres in the city while PPP women activists Shamim Jhundair, Fatima Baloch and Khairun Nisa Mughal staged protest demonstrations outside press club and threw their bangles.
