Published November 17, 2007

KOHAT, Nov 16: At least nine shops were destroyed in a fire in the main bazaar here on Friday.

The fire broke out in a shop in the afternoon and soon engulfed the adjoining shops, causing loss of millions of rupees.

Nearby high-tension wires and pylons also caught fire causing a long power breakdown in the area.

The fire tender of the municipal administration reached the scene half an hour after the fire broke out as it had been parked without diesel.

The petrol pump which provided fuel to the administration’s vehicles had suspended supply a few months back after the credit crossed Rs400,000.

Fire brigade from air force and Kohat Tunnel were also called to control the fire.
