HYDERABAD, Nov 17: The president of the Hyderabad District Bar Association (HDBA), Abdul Aziz Sheikh, who had been in jail under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), was released late on Friday night after he submitted an undertaking that he would not indulge in any “illegal activity”.

A total of 93 persons have so far been released from jail after having filed the undertaking. Mr Shaikh confirmed he had filed the bond undertaking not to indulge in any illegal activity otherwise he would have to pay a fine of Rs50,000 and said that everyone seeking release under MPO were filing the bond.

“We will continue our just struggle,” said the HDBA president after securing release.

Earlier, the president of High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Abdul Sattar Kazi, was released from jail after submitting the bond. A jail source said that all those who were being released after undertaking not to indulge any activity that may lead to destruction of peace failing which they will pay Rs50,000.

Meanwhile, Cantonment police arrested five activists of Awami Tehrik, Allah Jurio, Ganjan Kumar, Siyano Palejo, Javed Bhatti and Moti Ram for violating section 144 outside the local press club.
