HYDERABAD, Nov 21: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that it is very encouraging that nearly 8,000 students have taken admission in class-I in the 110 newly converted English medium schools.

He said this while inaugurating four additional rooms of Seth Kamaluddin Government Boys High School and foundation stone laying ceremony of a computer lab at the S. K. Rahim Government Girls High School here on Tuesday. He said that more attention was being paid to the promotion of education in rural areas when compared to urban areas.

Mr Jamil deplored that due to the indifferent attitude of authorities concerned and teachers, the standard of education in government schools had deteriorated and the parents had lost faith in government schools.

He lamented that out of 110,000 students who were studying in 1,100 government schools, not a single student had been able to secure position in the board examinations.

He said this was highly regrettable as the government school teachers were being paid salaries according to their grades between Rs5,000 to Rs40,000. He said due to this deplorable situation, the district government was giving top priority to improve the standard of education.

In this context, he said, a district education monitoring committee had been appointed to ensure the punctuality and attendance of students as well as teachers.

The district nazim said that on the recommendation of this committee, action had been taken against irresponsible teachers and added that the standard of education was gradually improving in government schools.

He said there was no dearth of conscientious school teachers and expressed the hope that with the passage of time, good results will be achieved. Mr. Jamil said that time was not far when parents will prefer government schools over private schools.
