KOHAT, Nov 22: Students from various schools and colleges impressed judges and the audience alike during an English language declamation contest by delivering good speeches on a variety of topics.

The contest was organised recently by the Frontier Education Foundation Academy (Fefa), which was attended by the head of the English department of the National Institute of Modern Languages (NIML), Islamabad, and representatives from Oxford University Press, Peshawar.

The vice-chancellor of the Kohat University of Science and Technology (Kust), Dr Lutfullah Kakakhel, was the chief guest.

Dr Kakakhel on the occasion appreciated the thought-provoking points touched upon by the contestants. He said speaking a language was a skill and the more one practised it the more one became proficient at it.

He said the Kust had made arrangements to connect all universities and colleges in Kohat through computer networking.

The director of the Fefa, Dr Najeebullah, said his institution was one of the few in the country which provided training to college-level teachers. He said: “During the past four years, Fefa has trained more than 1,200 male and female teachers and conducted several workshops in its language laboratory.”

He said the foundation was now stepping into the human resource field.
