HYDERABAD, Nov 22: The Hyderabad chapter of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) said on Thursday the Election Commission had shown its partisan attitude during the presidential elections and demanded appointment of a new election commission.
The party leaders stressed at a meeting that elections under interim governments comprising mostly Q-Leaguers and their allies could not be fair, free and impartial.
The meeting presided over by Sahibzada Mehmood Ahmed Qadri opposed the imposition of emergency in the country
and expressed the party’s no-confidence in the interim federal and provincial governments as well as the election commission.
The meeting severely criticised curbs on print and electronic media and arrests of lawyers and political activists and demanded that emergency should be lifted, new interim federal and provincial governments comprising representatives of all the political parties should be appointed and the political parties should be given a free hand to launch election campaign.
The meeting also discussed the names of candidates for the upcoming elections in case the opposition parties decided against boycott of general elections.
Qari Abdur Rasheed Awan, Haji Moinuddin Shaikh, Qari Niaz Ahmed Naqshbandi and Hussain Bux Hussaini were among tose who attended the meeting.
ROTATION PROGRAMME: The executive engineer of Nasir Division Hyderabad announced on Thursday rotation programme for the minors and distributaries under the command of his division. The rotation programme had to be imposed due to shortage of water in the main Rohri Canal, he said.
According to the schedule, Bulghai Distry, Gharib Distry, Tando Soomro-I, Tando Allahyar-I, and D.O’s Nasir Branch from RD 90 to 142 of Tando Allahyar Sub-division will remain open, while Shaikh Moosa, DO’s from RD 0 to 90, Tando Allahyar-II, Nagnah Distry, and Landhi-I Minor of the same division will remain closed from Nov 22 to 29.
Similarly T.G. Ali Distry, Pir Shaikh-II Minor, Chang Minor of Chang Sub-division will remain open and Landhi Minor-II, Chuch Minor, Pir Sakhi-I Minor, Bijar Minor and D.O’s Nasir Branch from RD 142 to 220 of the same division would remain closed from Nov 22 to 29.
Likewise, Wagherji Distry, Basran-II, Chango Minor, Sangi Minor and Jarkas Distry of Khairpur Gambo Sub-division will remain open and Gharo Minor, Aliabad Minor, Basran-I Minor, Sorhadi Minor, Khoski Minor, Amerlo Minor and D.O’s from RD 220 to 354 of Nasir Branch will remain closed during the same period.
Besides, Tajpur Minor, Kunar-I Distry, Kaiser Minor and Arain Minor of Tajpur Sub-division will remain open and Shah Latif Minor, D.O’s Rohri main canal from RD 891 to 970, Shahpur Minor, Palejani Minor and Ghotano-I Distry will remain close up to Nov 29.
In addition, Soomerki Distry, Seri Distry, Mati Distri, Moolan Minor, Ghotano-II Minor, Kunner-II Distry and D.O’s Rohri canal Tando Muhammad Khan Sub-division will remain open and Shaikh Bhirkio Distry and Muhammad Khan Distry of the same division will remain close up to Nov 29.
SECTION 144: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Thursday banned entry of cattle or buffalos in the Indus River and declared the river as protected area under section 144.
He authorised the SHOs concerned to register case under section 188 against the owners of buffalos or cattle in case they were found in violation of this order.
LUMHS: The controller of examination of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro on Thursday announced that theory examinations of various postgraduate degree and diploma courses would be held on Nov 27 at LUMHS Jamshoro at 12 noon.
