Benazir, Nawaz file poll papers

Published November 27, 2007

FORMER prime ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif filed nomination papers for the coming general election on Monday — Ms Bhutto for the seats NA-204 and NA-207 and Mr Sharif for the NA-120 constituency. Speaking to reporters, both the ex-premiers said emergency should be lifted before the elections. Ms Bhutto said that the PPP believed in an independent judiciary, but the issue of reinstatement of the deposed judges should be left to the next parliament. Mr Sharif said Gen Musharraf would have to reinstate the deposed superior court judges and obtain a judgment in his favour from them over the issue of dual offices.
