QUETTA, Nov 26: The tehsildar of Gwadar and his bodyguard were gunned down here on Monday.

According to police two armed men opened fire on his vehicle on the Dr Bano road.

The security guard was killed on the spot while the tehsildar, who had suffered bullet wounds in the head, died in the civil hospital.

A passerby Mohammad Amin, also injured in the firing, has been admitted to hospital.

Asghar Mengal was the first cousin of Amirul Mulk Mengal, former governor and chief justice of the Balochistan High Court and nephew of Mir Gul Khan Naseer, member of the first elected cabinet of the province.

The incident is said to be related to a dispute between Mengal and Zehri tribes over a plot of land.

Police took into custody an AK-47 rifle that the assailants had left behind.

A case was registered, but no arrest has been made.
