LAHORE, Dec 1: Five matches were decided on the first day of the 23rd national women’s hockey championship here on Saturday. In the opening match Wapda thrashed Quetta-C by a record margin of 26-0. The winners led the first half with 14-0 and kept up the pressure till the final whistle. Azra Nasir (7), Beenish Hayat (6), Rabia Qadir (4), Aqeela Nasim (3), Shaheena (3), Neelma Husain (2) and Sonia Khan (2) scored for Wapda.

In the second match, Railways outclassed Rawalpindi by 11-0 after taking a 6-0 lead in the first half. Ayesha Bashir and Shahida struck three goals each. Irum Bukhari, Hina Kanwal added two each while Asia banged one goal.

Hyderabad beat Peshawar 6-0 after remaining 2-0 ahead at interval. Rizwana and Farhan added two goals each while Tajwar and Sidra chipped in with one each.

Meanwhile the match between City District Quetta and Sargodha resulted in a goalless draw.

The last match saw Police outclass Multan by 9-0 after leading the first half by 4-0. Nadia Rehmat and Gulshar Tahir scored three apiece while Shamshad and Ghanza Bashir contributed one goal each.
