LARKANA, Dec 2: Bandits in police uniform attempted to kidnap one Deedar Shaikh and Mumtaz Shaikh, a member of the Sindh council of Pakistan People’s Party, near Naudero on Sunday but Mumtaz managed to escape from kidnappers.

The two were going to Sukkur in a car when bandits in police uniform signalled them to stop at Pir Mataro, 40 kilometres from here. They asked to accompany them to assistant sub-inspector but they refused to go with them. But in the meantime they had overpowered them and began to drive the car.

When the car halted automatically Mumtaz Shiakh managed to open the door and run out and the kidnappers sped away with Deedar Shaikh.

Mumtaz reached the Madeji police station. Police went after the bandits and found the car near Panjodero in Naudero.

Police with the help of signals of hostage’s cellphone followed the kidnappers to Kandhkot and were searching the criminals till the filing of this report.

PPP leader Nisar Khuhro phoned caretaker chief minister and IGP to protest over the incident. Incidents of kidnapping in broad daylight spoke volumes of the deteriorating law and order situation in the province, he said.

He demanded early recovery of the kidnapped trader and arrest of abductors. How could one expect fair elections in such fragile law and order conditions, he asked.

SNF: The chairman of the Sindh National Front (SNF) Mumtaz Ali Bhutto in a press statement on Sunday criticised Ms Benazir Bhutto for ‘ignoring the relatives and heirs of people who were killed in Karachi blasts on Oct 18.’
