HYDERABAD, Dec 3: Provincial Caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Environment Jam Karam Ali Khan has said that he will hold a joint meeting of the mill owners of Kotri, elected representatives of the area and officials of environment department to resolve the issue of release of industrial waste of the Kotri industrial area in KB Feeder, a canal through which water is supplied to Karachi.
He was speaking at a meeting on environmental issues at circuit house which was attended by Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority general manager Dr Mukhtar Ahmed Sohag, HCCI representatives from the industrial area and officials of the department.
The minister said that he would visit the industrial area and factories located there to take stock of the situation. He said that he would approach the federal government for the establishment of a water treatment plant in the industrial area to ensure the supply of clean drinking water to the area people.
He said that it was the duty of every individual to perform his due role in keeping environment neat and clean and added that he would endeavour to resolve environmental problems during his short tenure.
Representatives of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry complained about smoke-emitting vehicles and pressure horns.
Later, the caretaker minister visited the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai in Bhit Shah and offered Fateha at the shrine.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Sindh was the land of sufis and saints who had practiced and preached love, peace and brotherhood. He said that by following the massage of saints like Shah Latif, they could promote peace and brotherhood in the society. He said that the caretaker government was determined to hold fair, free and transparent elections.
