Setback for PPP in Okara

Published December 5, 2007

OKARA, Dec 4: The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has suffered a setback with the rejection of nomination papers of its two candidates, Rai Noor Muhammad Kharal from NA-143 and Muhammad Arif Chaudhry from NA-144, as the PPP was hopeful to win these two seats out of five constituencies of the district.

Now the PPP is in the dilemma of fielding substitute candidates though both the candidates are going to file an appeal before the election tribunal of the Lahore High Court against the rejection of their nomination papers by the returning officers.

The PPP's district chapter body held a meeting on Monday night where various options were discussed regarding fielding substitute candidates.

The PPP's high command has reportedly directed its district chapter to touch former tehsil nazim, Ch Nadeem Abbas Rubera, if he was interested for party ticket for NA-143. However, it is learnt that Rubera demanded candidates for Punjab Assembly constituencies falling under NA-143 constituency of his choice.
