ISLAMABAD, Dec 5: Riot police was stoned in the capital city on Wednesday when they baton charged a group of students after being provoked by fiery slogans against them in a protest demonstration near Aabpara police station.

The clash broke out between the law enforcers and the pupil near the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club (RIPC) camp office soon after the youth were prevented from marching down towards the Judicial Colony.

Though angered by the police move, the students began to disperse while chanting slogans that infuriated the personnel in full riot gear and armed with truncheons.

The protesters shouted out “shame police shame” and “shame uniform shame” as they confronted the onslaught.

Several rally participants suffered injuries when the police charged at them while brandishing the sticks and hitting them carelessly. Enraged by the violent attack, the students struck back by pelting the aggressors with stones.

Earlier, more than 200 students of the International Islamic University, Quaid-i-Azam University, University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi, Federal Urdu University, Punjab College of Commerce, and National University of Modern Languages gathered at the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club camp office at around 12 noon.

The call for the rally was given by the Joint Student Movement to express solidarity with the judiciary and media.

They were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of the ousted judiciary and the media, demanding their freedom.

“The students are already out on roads and they will fight until the end of dictatorship,” they noted.
