CHITRAL, Dec 7: A represen-tative of an organisation involved in environmental conservation has said that a sustainable ecological and poverty alleviation plan had been chalked out for the Chitral district.

The consultant of the Chitral Conservation Strategy, Shah Karez, was addressing a gathering here on Friday, which was attended by District Nazim Maghfirat Shah and DCO Kamran Rehman.

He said his organisation was supported by the International Union for conservation of Nature (IUCN), Swiss Development Corporation for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Programme Support for Northern Pakistan (PSNP).

He said a strategy, known as the Integrated Development Vision of Chitral, had been formulated after exhaustive talks between all stakeholders, which had been approved by the district government.

Under the programme, public- and private-sector organisations and civil society institutions will work in a broad-based and participatory manner. For an effective implementation of the plan, the PSNP has established a partnership with a number of NGOs, said Mr Karez.
