KOHAT, Dec 8: The country desperately needs a leader with the integrity and honesty of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah who may steer the country out of the abyss of corruption.

This was the consensus reached at a seminar held on Saturday in connection with the International Anti-Corruption Day. It was organised by the Tehsil Municipal Administration.

The seminar was attended by union council nazims, district coordination officers, tehsildars, revenue officers and heads of all departments concerned.

The assistant coordination officer, who was performing the duty of the stage secretary, apologised for the absence of NAB representatives and said that they had been unable to attend the seminar because of some important engagement.

He said that principals and teachers of schools and colleges could not attend the function because they were busy in training for the elections.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police of the Kohat region Zulfiqar Cheema was the chief guest on the occasion who said that it was the duty of the judiciary and the media to keep a strong check on institutions and individuals.

The judges, he said, could play an important role in curbing corruption at all levels because they enjoyed the powers to award punishment to the criminals and provide justice to the people.

He expressed the opinion that the media could make the nation strong by exposing the wrongding of individuals like politicians and heads of police and other departments without any fear or favour.
