HYDERABAD, Dec 11: Members of district council on Tuesday called for the construction of more flyovers in the city to smooth flow of traffic on the roads.
Convenor Zafar Rajput had to adjourn the session on two occasions due to lack of quorum.
When a council member, Ishtiaque Rajput, tabled the resolution calling for construction of more flyovers another member drew the conveners’ attention to lack of quorum and he had to adjourn the session for ten minutes.
Mr Rajput moved the resolution after resumption of the session and said that the construction of more flyovers had become inevitable due to increase in population and traffic jams.
Rashid Khan said that Hyderabad would become the second city of the country with the largest number of flyovers towards the end of 2008. However, the district government did not have a magic wand to solve all the problems in a jiffy, he said.
Mehboob Abro acknowledged the fact that the district government busy constructing 14 flyovers in the city. But it would have been much better if it had also taken them onboard, he said demanding construction of flyovers at Naseem Nagar Chowk and Bhittai Nagar.
Q. Mohammad Hakim said that the district government planned to construct flyovers at Shahbaz Chowk, Poonam Petrol Pump, Channel Mori, Rani Bagh and a number of other roundabouts, which would help solve traffic problems. When Ms Sajida Baloch rose to speak, a member drew the convener’s attention to lack of quorum and the convener had to adjourn the session once again to Wednesday.
DEMO: A large number of people including children staged a demonstration on Tuesday under the banner of Jeay Sindh National Party in protest against demolition of their houses by the district government in Shah Latif Colony, Paretabad.
