HYDERABAD, Dec 13: Dist-rict Council Convener Zafar Ali Rajput on Thursday directed the DPO Hyderabad to provide protection to the council member, Parveen Lodhi, after she wept in the house while telling that she was being threatened with dire consequences by some anonymous caller.

The convener directed the DPO to initiate an inquiry into the matter and submit a report.

He said the council member should be given full protection.

Earlier, when she rose to table an out of turn resolution, some of the members took her concern lightly as everyone was laughing.

She tore apart her copy of resolution in protest over her colleagues’ behaviour.

Ms Parveen feared that while she might have been killed one day but the house shouldn’t take the matter lightly, because, next time, it could be the turn of some other member.

She also quoted an example of another council member, who she believed was murdered, but declared as ‘natural death’.

Mehboob Abro, rose to support her and said that protection should be provided to her. He said people also have doubts over the death of another woman council member but now another woman is complaining of receiving threats.

Rashid Khan also stood up in her defence and said that the matter should be taken seriously. He said the member should also restrict her movement. He said the DPO should be asked to provide her security guard.

Meanwhile, the chair directed the Building Control Department and the Hyderabad Develop-ment Authority (HDA) officials to submit the record of those plazas which were built illegally.

He said the report should contain details of those buildings that are under construction.

He said officers who were responsible for these violations of buildings laws should be named in the report so that action could be taken against them.
