Lahore win Punjab girls athletics

LAHORE, Dec 14: The Punjab Under-17 girls’ athletics championship has been won by Lahore district with 66 points after they claimed all the three gold medals at stake at the Punjab Stadium’s tartan track on Friday.

Faisalabad with 39 points seized the second position, while Rahimyar Khan scored 30 points to claim the third spot.

Lahore’s Numrah Khan Tehreem and Rahimyar Khan’s Samia Saher were declared best athletes of the event.

On the final day, Numra earned the first gold for Lahore, clocking 13.35 seconds to win the 100-metre race. She was followed by Aneela Mehmood (Rahimyar Khan) and Parveen Akhtar (Faisalabad).

Azalfa Shafi gave Lahore another gold medal, winning the 800-metre race in the time of two minutes and 43.77seconds. Kiran Rana and Nusrat Shabnum of Muzaffargarh came second and third.

Lahore also claimed a gold medal in the 4x100 relay race with the quartet of Numra, Bakhtawar Sultan, Jawaria Sultan and Sehrish, clocking 56.12 seconds. Rahimyar Khan (Bushra Arshad, Aneela Mehmood, Iqra Ashraf and Samia Saher) remained second followed by Rawalpindi (Talia, Tasmia, Saadia and Ayesha).

The winners of each final was given a cash prize of Rs5,000, with the runners-up getting Rs3,000 and third placed holders Rs2,000, respectively.
