KARACHI, Dec 16: Ranipur sugar mills had reduced rate of sugarcane to Rs48 per 40 kilogrammes, growers complained on Sunday.

They reduced price by Rs19, violating Rs67 per 40kg rate fixed by the government.

They said that Rs67 per 40kg rate was already low and further cut in it was unjustified.

They said that mills were also not making payments on time and they were only offering higher rate to some big landlords. Decline in the rates had caused heavy losses to the growers and if rates were not raised with immediate affect they would shift over to other crops, they warned.

They appealed to Sindh government to take notice of violation of sugar rates by millers and take action against them.—PPI
