KHAIRPUR, Dec 17: Labourers, daily wagers and vendors took out a procession against price hike and unemployment from Panj Gulla Chowk to press club, here on Monday.

The procession was led by Ustad Dadan, Saleem Lashari and others. Labour leaders told reporters they hardly earn Rs100 to Rs150 a day but the price hike in daily use items, especially wheat flour, cooking oil and sugar do not allow them to provide meals to their families. Hardest hit was the labour class.

They said politicians belonging to affluent class were busy in election campaign and do not pay head to problems of the poor. ERRATIC GAS SUPPLY: Citizens marched from Luqman Railway Phatak to press club here on Monday to protest the low pressure of gas in the city and other parts of the district. The procession was led by President District Shehri Ittehad, Ladies Wing, Panjul Seelro, Sharif Bhatti and President Shehri Ittehad, Abdul Qayoom Shaikh.

Leaders said low gas pressure in Khairpur since last two months had made lives miserable. They said due to low pressure, students and employees leave their homes without breakfast.

They alleged gas administration of lowering gas pressure without reason and also starting load-shedding. They demanded the authorities to ensure regular gas supply.

EDUCATION: A youth forum on the subject of “problems of students and the youth” organized by Hamdard Social Welfare Organisation Khairpur in collaboration with other social organizations was held at the press club, here on Monday.

The forum was presided over by Sharafat Ali, while Asad Shah Abidi, Abdul Qayoom Shaikh and comrade Anwar Panhwar were chief speakers.

Sharafat Ali said according to 1973 Constitution, all students were to be provided free education without discrimination and regretted different parties come into power but do not implement constitution while very little of the budget was allocated for it and larger amount on manufacturing missiles.

Syed Shamsuddin said the voice of youth had been gagged by banning student unions in colleges and universities. He added that due to direct and indirect Martial Law in the country for last 40 years, pro-dictatorship rulers had abused politics.

Asad Shah Abidi said 53 per cent population was living below the poverty line.

He said despite bumper wheat crop this year, people were facing shortage of wheat flour because of the smuggling by sardars and bureaucratst.
