NAWABSHAH, Dec 17: Police have advised Chairperson of PPP Ms Benazir Bhutto against travelling to Nawabshahab in a cavalcade and asked her to adopt aerial route instead.
Confirming to Dawn, the DPO of Nawabshah, Syed Ghayasuddin Rashidi, said it would not be possible for them to ensure fool proof security of Ms Bhutto if she arrives here by road and he has communicated this difficulty through a letter addressed to the Regional Police Officer. He said that he has also informed PPP District President Ghulam Qadir Chandio accordingly.
According to DPO, an extra contingent of 1000 policemen and
a battery of vehicles was needed for the protection of PPP Chairperson Ms Bhutto.
Benazir Bhutto is scheduled to visit Nawabshah on December 19 where she would be addressing a public meeting to drum up support for the PPP candidates contesting the January eight elections.
DCO Nawabshah, Abdul Razzaq Qureshi told this correspondent that she would be provided fully-fledged security cover either if she arrives here by road or air.
District Nazim Faryal Talpur, also the sister-in-law of Ms Bhutto, said that she was unaware about the police plan and she had not received any information from the police yet.
