Six in run for each seat in Punjab

LAHORE, Dec 17: The final list depicts that an average of six candidates will contest on one each seat of the national and provincial assembly in Punjab. An average of 15 candidates for one NA seat and 16 candidates for one PA seat had filed their nomination papers in Punjab.

A total of 7,271 nomination papers were filed in the entire province, including Islamabad, for 150 NA and 371 PA seats till Nov 26 which after acceptance, rejection and withdrawal has now been reduced to 3,348.

After 28 withdrawals, now 34 candidates are left in the field for two NA seats in Islamabad. At least 71 women are contesting the PA election while 55 the NA election in Punjab.

About 80 minority candidates are also in the field for national and provincial assemblies on general seats.

During the first phase from Nov 21 to Nov 26, 5,033 nomination papers were filed in Punjab for 150 NA seats, including two from Islamabad, while 2,238 candidatures were filed for 371 PA seats.—APP
