Benazir to hold 16 meetings in Punjab

LAHORE, Dec 23: Pakistan Peoples Party, Punjab, President Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has announced the schedule for the 16 public meetings the PPP Chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, will be addressing in Punjab as part of the party’s election campaign.

He said the people were eager to welcome Ms Bhutto in the province and would inflict a crushing defeat on her opponents in Jan 8 general elections.

He said the PML-Q had deprived the people of atta and was perturbed over doffing of army uniform by President Musharraf.

He said Ms Bhutto would open the party’s election campaign in Punjab by addressing the public meeting at Mahmood Stadium, Rahim Yar Khan, at 10am on Monday (today), while the second would be at Faridkot Hockey Ground on Sheikh Road, Bahawalpur, at 2pm. The third meeting, he said, would be held at Stadium Road, Kehror Pakka, Lodhran, at 10am on Tuesday (tomorrow) and the fourth at Muzaffargarh Sports Ground at 2pm the same day.

He said the PPP chairperson would address her fifth public meeting at Liaqat Bagh, Rawalpindi, at 12 noon on Dec 27 and the sixth at Qasim Bagh, Multan, at 12 noon on Dec 31. She would also address a public meeting at Jahanian (Jan 1, 10am), and at Mailsi and Pakpattan Sharif at 11am and 1pm, respectively, the same day, he added.

He said the other meetings would be held at Kutchery Road, Sahiwal (Jan 2, 10am), Kasur (Jan 3, 10am), Company Bagh, Sheikhupura (Jan 4, 10am), Dhobi Ghat, Faisalabad, (12 noon, the same day), GT Road, Gujrat ( Jan 5, 10am), G.T Road, Gujranwala ( 2pm, the same day).

She would address the last public meeting of her election campaign in Lahore at 2pm on January 6, he added. —Reporter
