KARACHI, Dec 24: A passer-by was killed and a minor girl injured when a group of people opened indiscriminate fire on a house in Dhani Bux Goth over some property dispute on Monday.

Sachal police said that one Sultan, along with his four/five friends, came to the house of his rival, Rafique, and started shooting at it.

Occupants of the house returned fire and a passer-by was caught in the crossfire. Afifa, one-year-old daughter of Rafique’s brother, also sustained a bullet injury.

Both the victims were rushed to a local hospital where the man, identified as Akram, was declared dead. Doctors said a bullet had pierced through his skull. Afifa was, however, stated to be out of danger.

Police quoted Sultan as claiming that Rafique was occupying the house illegally.

Sultan and his alleged accomplices managed to escape.

Kidnappers arrested

The CID police on Monday claimed to have arrested six kidnappers and recovered two hostages they had been holding for some days.

The police said that a house in PECHS, Block 2, had been raided on a tip-off provided by a relative of the hostages. An exchange of fire with the kidnappers ensued and the CID police team managed to force them to surrender. The criminals were later identified as Nadimul Haq, Attaullah, Amir Hussain, Muhammad Bilal, Rashid Ahmed and Rafiq.

Two Kalashnikov rifles, four TT pistols, four motorcycles, a car and a police uniform were recovered from the scene, SSP CID Raja Omar Khatab said, adding that raids were being conducted for the arrest of Kamran and Nadeem, stated to be ringleaders.
