KARACHI, Dec 24: Pakistan junior hockey team’s training camp for the next month’s eight-nation hockey tournament in Malaysia begins at the Hockey Club of Pakistan (HCP) Stadium on Tuesday morning.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has invited 34 probables to the camp that will continue till the team’s departure to Kuala Lumpur where the event starts on Jan 17.

This will be the third assignment of Pakistan juniors after their twin African tour of Kenya and Egypt and the four-nation contest in Singapore.

Considering the Asian junior hockey tournament followed by the 2009 Junior World Cup, the Kuala Lumpur contest is very much significant, and can be utilised by the greenshirts as preparation for the two major events.

In Kuala Lumpur, Pakistan juniors will get a grand exposure as top teams like Australia, Germany, Holland, Spain, India, Korea besides hosts Malaysia would be featuring in the competition.

Olympian Jahangir Butt will be supervising the training camp with the coaches’ panel of Kamran Ashraf and Danish Kaleem while Irshad Haider will be the camp commandant.

Meanwhile, nine players reported at the HCP training camp by Monday afternoon.—Agencies
