LAHORE, Dec 26: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq (retired) has warned that strict action would be taken against any nazim found violating code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said that he had received 700 complaints out of which 500 belonged to nazims regarding their interference in electioneering for the Jan 8 polls.
He said the complaints had been sent to the district returning officers (DROs) concerned for investigation and strict action would be taken against those who would be found guilty of violating the ECP code of conduct.
It is responsibility of provincial governments to maintain peace during elections, he said and added that the ECP had completed all arrangements regarding Jan 8 elections, the CEC added.
Justice Qazi said that lists of sensitive polling stations and districts were being prepared and army would be called there to maintain tranquillity and to cope with any untoward incident. — Online
