MARDAN, Dec 27: The District Bar Association here on Thursday terminated membership of three members, including one provincial caretaker minister, and two candidates for the election.
A general body meeting of the association was held at its office, which was presided over by vice-president Bacha Rehman Mohmand.
The meeting reviewed the poll boycott plan and decided to terminate the basic membership of three members.
The three lawyers whose membership was suspended are: Provincial caretaker minister Syed Kamal Shah, former deputy speaker of the NWFP Assembly and a candidate for PF-23 Ikramullah Shahid and former speaker of the NWFP Assembly and candidate for PF-29 and NA-11, Abdul Akbar Khan.
The meeting adopted a resolution demanding restoration of the Constitution, reinstatement of the deposed judges and repeal of the Army Act.
The meeting did not discuss the membership issue of two other members, who are contesting the election as political parties’ nominees for the provincial assembly.
They are: Advocate Bashir, PPP-S candidate for PF-25, and Nigar Khan, PML-N candidate for PF-23.
The lawyers also took out a procession and held a demonstration at the Justice Chowk.
They condemned the military rule of Gen Pervez Musharraf and pledged that their struggle would continue till the acceptance of their demands.
