SWABI: People asked to boycott polls

SWABI, Dec 27: Jamaat-i-Islami provincial naib amir Mushtaq Ahmad has urged people to boycott the ‘fraud elections’ because it will bring no remedy to them.

Addressing a gathering in Kernel Sher Kili here on Thursday, he said that although the government had announced that emergency had been lifted, in fact it continued to hold the ground. The deposed judges who upheld the principle of keeping the judiciary independent had not been reinstated, he added.

He said that the JI was running a campaign against the fraud polls and was organising protest rallies to inform the people about the meaningless process of the elections.

“We have been mobilising the people against the elections because it is our responsibility to educate people about it,” he said.

Former MNA Mohammad Usman said that those participating in the elections were supporting President Pervez Musharraf because the whole drama had been devised to strengthen his grip on power.

He said that although the contesting candidates and their parties claimed that the elections would be rigged, yet they were participating in the polls.

JI information secretary Waheed Murad Hamdard denied that Jamaat workers were collecting the identity cards from people. “Our workers strictly follow the party policy and there is no need to take such action,” he added.
