SAHIWAL, April 3: The power supply to tubewells, disposals and streetlights of the local municipal committee was disconnected on Wednesday due to the non-payment of bills of Rs5 million.

The people are facing hardships in the absence of water and the poor sanitation condition. Residents of Farid Town, Scheme Nos 1, 2 and 3 are the worst-sufferers.

Negotiations between the officials of municipal committee and Mepco authorities have already ended in smoke.

According to a Wapda source, the power supply can only be restored on the intervention by the Mepco’s Multan head, the Wapda chairman or the Punjab governor.

DIALYSIS UNIT: The dialysis centre at the local DHQ Hospital has started functioning.

District Nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz and health officers were present on the occasion.

At present, there are two dialysis machines gifted by a local philanthropist. The water treatment plant has also been provided. Though the centre was earlier inaugurated by the Punjab governor, it could not be made functional for the lack of a treatment plant.

The district Nazim said the governor had directed for the purchase of three more dialysis machines with a grant of Rs30 million released to the Sahiwal district.
