Kasuri denies luring voters

Published January 8, 2008

LAHORE, Jan 7: Former foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, while reacting to a story from Kasur which appeared on Jan 5, denied that he was trying to win over voters by launching new development projects.

In a statement, he also denied visiting Gohar Jagir village on Thursday and said not a rupee’s worth of new development projects had been initiated since the dissolution of the government on Nov 15.

About the reported violation of party discipline, Kasuri said most of the people connected to electoral politics in Kasur were aware of the fact that the former MPA from PP-180 had declared his own candidature for NA-140 in violation of party discipline and had, at one stage, also secured the support of the candidate from PP-179 against him (Mr Kasuri). Under the circumstances, Mr. Kasuri said that he had no option but to have the party ticket changed in PP-180 and to rely on his own strength in PP-179 and take all appropriate measures.
