DADU: PPP leader lock horns with DCO

Published January 14, 2008

DADU, Jan 13: A row has developed between PPP leader Pir Mazhar-ul Haq and the District Coordination Officer Dadu, Aijaz Ahmed Mangi, over non-issuance of solvency certificates from Mukhtiarkar offices to PPP leaders and activists seeking bail from the concerned courts held in post-Benazir Bhutto assassination violence.

According to Pir Mazhar, Dadu DCO had directed all mukhtiarkars not to issue solvency certificates to PPP leaders nominated in violence cases. He threatened of an hunger strike if the DCO was not replaced forthwith.

When contacted, the DCO categorically denied the charges levelled by PPP leaders. He said that record of mukhtiarkar offices were almost burnt and power to issue solvency certificates rests with them.

Pir Mazhar, meanwhile, condemned firing on caravan of PPP women’s wing of Naushahro Feroze at Mehar town. He said that PPP women’s caravan was returning to Naushahro Feroze after offering fateha at Ms Bhutto’s grave at Naudero. It came under intense firing when it reached Mehar town. The incident took place two days back.

DPO TRANSFERRED: IG Police Sindh has transferred the DPO of Dadu, Tipu Sultan and SP investigation Malik Zafar Iqbal Awan on Saturday evening. They relinquished their charges late on Saturday night. Ayaz Ahmed Pathan abd Abdul Karim Khoso have taken over the charge of DPO and SP investigation respectively.

DPO Jamshoro, DRO Jamshoro and DRO Dadu were transferred two days back.

PPP candidate Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur (NA-231) has written to the Chief Election Commissioner demanding cancellation of transfer orders of DPO and DRO Jamshoro, which he alleged, were issued at the behest of PML-Q.
