CHITRAL, Jan 13: PIA flights to Chitral could not be operated from Peshawar for the 12th consecutive day on Sunday.

Stranded passengers told Dawn that inclement weather led to cancellation of flights for the first eight days while weather was all clear and sunny for the past four days, but the Civil Aviation Authority failed to clear runway of snow.

The passengers said the runway used to be cleared of snow in a day or two in the past, but this year the CAA authorities had not been performing their duty appropriately and the snow removal work was going on at a snail’s pace.

District Nazim Maghfirat Shah said the runway would be ready by Tuesday as the district government had started work on clearing snow.
